What is a funeral plan?

A funeral plan is a pre-paid plan arranged and paid for in advance in accordance with your wishes, so that when the time of need comes you have already decided on how you would like your day to be. Planning ahead also allows you to pay for your funeral upfront or over several months but with the ability to lock in today’s prices. There are many ways you can customise your plan and make it unique to you, including, but not limited to, choosing a funeral director, deciding which coffin you would like, and if you would like to include contributions towards flowers or a wake. Arranging your funeral plan today will give you peace of mind that you have helped reduce challenging decisions for your loved ones in the future.

How does a funeral plan work?

At the time of need, your loved ones only need to make one call to our support centre who will talk them through what to do next. Your unique Dignity Funeral Plan wishes will then be shared with our expert Funeral Director who will contact your loved ones to discuss the details of your plan and to ensure your send-off is just as you had hoped. If at any point your circumstances change and you wish to update certain details, you can revisit your plan at any time and request changes. Additional Charges may apply. Please refer to T&Cs.

Why do I need a funeral plan?

No one wants to think about when they are gone, but Funeral plans are a wonderful way to share your final wishes with your loved ones and ensure financial outlays are paid for in advance. Planning ahead not only allows you to really think about what you would like your funeral to be, but it also reduces challenging decisions for your family later on. There are many financial benefits to arranging a Funeral Plan in advance. Not only are you able to lock in today’s prices, but you can also choose to pay off your Funeral Plan in one lump sum, or spread the payments across 60 months so long as it doesn’t take you past your 85th birthday. Both options will ensure the cost of your funeral is covered to carry out your wishes in the event your family might not be able to afford the funeral you had hoped for at your time of need.

Who can I buy a funeral plan for?

If you are over the age of 18 and the person you are buying the funeral plan for is also over 18, you can purchase a funeral plan for anyone. Purchase a plan for yourself, a partner, parent, friend loved one, anyone! If you are purchasing a pre-paid plan on behalf of someone else, we recommend discussing their funeral wishes beforehand.

What products/services included in my plan are guaranteed?

All services provided by a Dignity Funeral Director are guaranteed, as well as cremation and burial fees (excluding the cost of a burial plot). We recognise that in creating your Funeral Plan, there may be other items you want to add or third-party services you wish to assign a contribution to. Dignity will guarantee the value of your contributions but not the items or service themselves. The contribution that you have left are subject to the Consumer Price index inflation rates, as costs of these items and services outside of our control are not guaranteed.

Can I change my plan after I have bought it?

Our plans are unique to you. If you would like to change the services and options outlined in your plan, you can do so at any time. Additionally, if you would like to upgrade your coffin, or add a little more to your third-party contribution for a memorial, or flowers we will not charge you additional administrative fees to make these changes. We will only charge you for the services you add on. Customers of bespoke plans can also cancel at any time and receive a full refund for any payments made up until that point

How can I pay for a funeral plan?

You can pay in full at your point of purchase with a credit or debit card or you can spread payments across instalments subject to eligibility. Please contact us at 0808 258 0726 to discuss payment options should you need to spread the cost of your funeral plan. We will not charge you for paying by instalments or cancelling your plan. There are no hidden costs at Dignity as we believe transparency is essential in delivering a high-quality product and service to our customers.

Choosing the right funeral plan for you.

If you are looking for a fuss-free, cost-effective plan, an unattended Direct Cremation plan could be for you. And, if you'd like to plan a celebration of life, we offer attended cremations and burials. A Direct Cremation Funeral Plan covers the fundamental products and services needed at your time of need but excludes the option of a funeral service, whereas an attended Cremation or Burial also includes a service. See your Funeral Plan Summary when creating your plan for further details or the products/services that are included and excluded. Any upgrades or additional requests will increase your cost. Our experienced funeral planning experts would very much look forward to hearing from you if you would like to discuss this further.

How can I be sure my money is safe with you?

The money you pay for a plan, less a fee to cover our costs of marketing, arranging the plan and the administration of your plan, is placed in The UK Funerals (2022) Trust, which is an independent trust. The trustees ensure the money is prudently managed and we will also guarantee to add funds to the trust to ensure it is always fully funded. Our commitment to delivering fair value to our customers means that the price of your Funeral Plan is no more than you'd be expected to pay for the same core elements of a funeral at today's prices. Additionally, your money will also be protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme if we cannot meet our obligations. We pride ourselves on providing financial peace of mind.
